Pradosh Vrat Vidhi and Katha
Pradosh Vrat Katha is a vow or resolve for Lord Shiva and Parvati, observed by Hindus all across the country. This Vrat is observed on the Trayodashi of the lunar fortnights during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. It is done during the twilight hours of the evening time, i.e. Sandhya samay on the thirteenth day from the brighter and the darker phases of the Moon.
Pradosh means the evening part of the night. It is believed that this 1 hour to 1.5 hour is the period of time when Shiva and Parvati can be found in their most cheerful mood. Thus, praying them at this hour can fulfill your needs and desires.
Pradosh Vrat can be observed by everyone irrespective of their age and gender. Many people perform the Vrat with full devotion and dedication.
In some parts of the country, disciples worship the Nataraj form of Shiva.
According to the Skanda Purana, there are two different methods in which Pradosh Vrat can be observed :
- 1) Devotees observe a strict fast during the 24 hours and keep a vigil at night.
- 2) In the second method, fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset and the people usually break the fast after finishing the evening prayers of Lord Shiva.
It is believed that on this day, light from even a single Diya, could reward you immensely.
