What is Upanayana Sanskar?
As per Hindu tradition, Upanayana Sanskar is an important Sanskar in a man’s life. In the Upanayana Sanskar ceremony, the boy is given a Janeu that is worn for the whole life. The Janeu of Upnayana Sanskar is a sacred white-colored thread that is created by keeping three threads together. It is worn from the left shoulder to the right crossing the chest. Upanayana Sanskar of the child signifies that he is ready to receive formal education and accept the Guru as a student. In the Vedic age, the child was sent to Gurukuls to acquire formal education from a Guru. Thus, it was necessary to commemorate Upanayana Sanskar before the child is sent to Gurukul.
