Magha Month

Magha month is considered to be the 11th Lunar month in the Hindu calendar. As per the Gregorian calendar, this month falls between January-February. 

The lunar month is observed by two methods in the Hindu calendar. In the 1st method, the Lunar month marks its presence from Purnima to Purnima which is known as the Purnimanta calendar whereas in another method Lunar month is marked from Amavasya to Amavasya which is known as the Amanta calendar. 

Some important festivals of Magha month are Sakat Chauth, Vasant Panchami, Ratha Saptami.

List of Magha Month festivals

• Sakat Chauth - On this day people worship Lord Ganesha for happiness and prosperity. See Sankashti chaturthi vrat dates in this year.

• Shattila Ekadshi - This is among the 24 vrats of Ekadashi which is kept to seek blessings from Lord Vishnu for a healthy and prosperous life. 

• Vasant Panchami-  On this occasion, people worship Goddess Sarwasti by offering yellow flowers to her. She is the Goddess of knowledge, art, and music.

• Ratha Saptami- This tithi is dedicated to the almighty Surya devta because this is the day when he started to enlighten the world with his powers and energies.

• Bhishma Ashtami- This day is observed as the death anniversary of Bhishma Pitamah and is therefore known as the Bhishma Ashtami. 

• Jaya Ekadashi- Jaya Ekadashi is among the 24 vrats of Ekadashi which is kept to appease Lord Vishnu.
