Bhadrapada Purnima Date 2021 and Tithi Timings
Bhadrapada Purnima has great significance in Hindi traditions. The full moon day marks the commencement of the holy month called Pitra Paksha or Shradh month.
The full moon date in Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month is called Bhadrapada Purnima. As per Hindu scriptures, this day is ideal for keeping Uma Maheshwar Vrat or Satya Narayan Vrat. From the day of Purnima of Bhadrapada 2021, Pitru Paksha 2021 will also commence.
This year, Bhadrapada Month will be celebrated on Monday, 20 September 2021. Pitru Paksha or Shradh month 2021 will begin from Monday, 20 September 2021 and will be observed till Wednesday 6 October 2021.
About Purnima
Purnima is considered a very sacred and auspicious day for Hindus. This lunar day is said to be the best day to worship and observe religious and spiritual rituals. As per Hindu Vedic texts, fasting on Purnima or Purnima Vrat channels positive energy and confers various merits to the observer. It is believed that Purnima Vrat can help in balancing the body’s metabolism and cleansing the digestive system. It boosts the tolerance of the person and invokes various spiritual powers in them.
Many important Pujas such as Shudhikaran Puja, Satyanarayan Puja etc; are conducted on the Purnima. Also, the birth anniversary of various spiritual Gurus or mentors falls on the different Purnima dates of the year. Lord Buddha, Guru Nanak, Subrahmanya, Dattatreya are said to be born on a Purnima day.

Purnima Vrat Rules: Do’s and Dont’s in Purnima Puja
Check out the do’s and don’ts to be followed on Purnima Vrat or Puja.
- Wake up early in the morning and take a bath in the sacred water source before sunrise.
- Worship Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva as per devotion.
- Since there is no specific Puja ritual for Purnima, one can worship Lord the way one wants.
- Eat only once in Purnima Vrat.
- Avoid salt, cereals or pulses during Purnima Vrat day.
- Start Purnima Vrat at sunrise and end it after watching the Moon.
- Consume Prasad of Purnima Vrat following the worship of Lord Moon after the full Moonrise.
