Shani Pradosh Vrat is a celebration, to primarily bring Shanidev and Shiva vows together. Shanidev is as complex as Shiva. Shiva is the destroyer and initiator of new creation whereas Shanidev is the judge guiding Shiva’s actions. Shanidev and Shiva being together can be termed as a power packed pair and worshipping this pair of Gods requires a lot of patience, focus and inner power.

Importance of Shani Pradosh Vrat.

Shani Pradosh Vrat is important for many reasons.

If you worship Shani Dev and Shiva together, then you would benefit with extremely good rewards. When you worship Shani Dev in the Pushya Nakshatra Yoga, and then donate oil to Brahmins, your problems due to the planet Saturn might lessen.
If you observe this Vrat you might be blessed with a healthy child.
Those who have Shani Dasha would benefit immensely by keeping this Vrat. Chant “Om Namah Shivay” for 108 times and this will bring relief to you.

Saturn sits on a crow and decides the fate of the world. Shiva is always receiving Saturn’s opinion and brings true destruction when Saturn is unhappy. Saturn is very crucial in every life and could have a strong effect on an individual’s life. The upheavals in our lives are due to Saturn’s judgments and decisions.

This is where Saturn and Shiva combine their forces and if you want to satisfy both of them together, you need to understand the importance of this Pradosh Vrat Katha.

There was a Nagar Seth in ancient times, who had different types of good things and comfortable things in his home. But, since they did not have a child, he and his wife used to be sad always. After a lot of thinking and decision making, one day they both left on a Tirth Yatra leaving the works with the servants. Just outside the city gate, they met Sadhu so he thought of taking Sadhu's blessings before beginning his journey. They sat near the Sadhu and when the Sadhu opened his eyes, he realized that the couple were sitting for quite a long time waiting for the Sadhu’s blessings.

So, as the Sadhu came back to his senses, he told them to observe the Shani Pradosh Vrat for a child and also told them the mantra for praying Shiva.

So, after taking the Sadhu’s blessings the husband and wife went ahead for their Tirth. After returning from Tirth Yatra, they did the Shani Pradosh Vrat and a beautiful son was born in their home.

Shani Pradosh Vrat Vidhi

Shani Pradosh Vrat has a very pronounced Vidhi. After the Sun is down and after a whole day fasting you have to wear something white after taking a bath.

Face the north-east direction and in an isolated corner, place some Gangajal or pure water and then create a dais. Create a lotus flower and some leaves and grasses by using five colours. Use a mat made of Kush grass and then start chanting and meditating in the name of Lord Shiva.
Chant “Om Namah Shivay” continuously.
A day before, perform Ganesh Puja and also keep a vigil that whole night, by singing devotional songs.
Once you finish the Pooja, you must perform a Hawan, offering ghee and other offerings to the holy Fire.
Once Hawan is done, you can perform an Arti in the name of Lord Shiva.
In the end, perform a Shanti Path and pray for the peace and prosperity of the family.
In the end, feed the Brahmans and according to your abilities, give some offerings to the Brahmins and take their blessings.

You can keep any of them depending on what is in your mind. People often perform the Pradosh Vrat to appease the Gods and the planets for a particular benefit they desire to obtain from the deities by observing the Vrat.
