SUNDAY RAHU KALAM & YAMAGANDAM TIMINGS

Sunday Rahu kaal Timings

Updated Date : गुरुवार, 16 जनवरी, 2025 07:07 पूर्वाह्न

Here is all you may want to know about the frightening Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal, along with their timings on Sunday and the rest of the week.

Rahu Kaal (known as Rahukalam in the Southern part of India) and Yamagandam are two unpromising periods. According to Vedic astrology, no task (barring a few exceptions) should be carried out during these hours of every day, including Sunday.

Moreover, Gulika Kaal, associated with Gulikan (son of the planet Saturn) is another period when no activity should be performed. To avoid the inauspiciousness of these periods, people choose to avoid them, even on a Sunday when they may be free, to decide the best time to perform any work.

Thus, if you also look forward to initiating any work on a free Sunday, consider the Sunday Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal before performing the activity.

The timings in the table above may differ slightly according to the time of sunrise. We assumed sunrise at 6 AM to calculate these weekly, particularly Sunday Rahukalam and Yamagandam timings. Let us now have an in-depth look at Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kalam.

What Is Rahukalam

Vedic astrology allows a specific day of the week to all seven planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn). However, no specific day is dedicated to nodal or shadow planets (Rahu and Ketu). Hence, they rule every day for one and a half hours. The duration when Rahu rules is called Rahukalam or Rahu Kaal. You can calculate Rahukalam today and all other days by dividing the time between sunrise and sunset at your place by eight.

Rahu is a snake that causes an eclipse by swallowing the Sun. Moreover, it is the head of Asura (a mystical being possessing destructive powers) Svarbhanu, who fraudulently drank the Amrit (holy nectar) meant for Devas (mystical beings possessing divine powers). Even after becoming divine due to Amrit’s effect, Rahu is regarded as malicious.

During Rahukalam, Rahu’s energy is at its maximum. Hence, it can result in disappointment and challenges if your Kundali (horoscope) does not have a benefic Rahu.

Expert astrologers, thus, advise against performing any activities (other than those to appease Rahu) during the one-and-a-half hours of Rahu’s rule, i.e., Rahukalam every day, to prevent Rahu’s negative effects.

What Is Yamagandam

Yamagandam is a period of one-and-a-half hours dedicated each day to Yama (also known as Yam or Yamraj), the planet Sun’s son. Yama carries the Atma (a deceased person’s soul) to its deserved place.

Any activity started during Yamagandam, particularly Sunday Yamagandam timings (especially those concerned with travel or money), does not have a favorable result. Only rituals and ceremonies related to death are performed during these hours.

What Is Gulika Kaal

Gulika Kaal or Gulika Kalam is one-and-a-half hours dedicated daily to Saturn’s son, Gulikan. During this period, you should avoid performing any inauspicious tasks or things you only wish to happen once in your life (for example, rituals related to death, marriage, etc.), as anything done during this period gets repeated.

As we stated earlier, despite being a holiday, Sunday Gulika Kaal, Rahukalam, and Yamagandam timings should be taken into consideration when performing any activity. Here is more on the same.

Sunday Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal Timings and Significance

Sunday is the day dedicated to the Sun, a warm and aggressive planet that resembles fire. When Sun’s aggressiveness combines with Rahu’s, Yam’s, and Gulikan’s negative forces, the adverse effects of Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal are amplified.

That is why Rahu Kaal on Sunday is inauspicious, and so are Yamagandam and Gulika Kaal. Hence, you should specifically note the timings of these Kaals (periods) for Sunday.

The Sunday Rahukalam timings are 4:30 pm (IST) – 6:00 pm (IST), Yamagandam timings are 12:00 pm (IST) – 1:30 pm (IST), and Gulika Kaal timings are 3:00 pm (IST) – 4:30 pm (IST).

However, if some important task cannot wait for these Kaals to get over, you can perform some astrological remedies to mitigate their negative effects.

Best Remedies for Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal

Below are the most powerful remedies for Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal to remove their bad effects.

  • Pray to your Kul Devta or set aside some money before initiating any activity or beginning a journey.

Note: You can chant Hanuman Chalisa and Ganesh Mantras if you do not know about your Kul Devta. Also, offer Panchamritam and jaggery to Lord Hanuman and eat this Prasadam before initiating the activity.

  • Observe a Vrat (fast) on this day, i.e., do not have food or water to please the Lord.
  • Worship Goddess Durga and recite the Durga Stotram.
  • Recite Kaal Bhairav Beej Mantra- “Om aim haram kaleem shri batukbhairavaya” or recite Kaal Bhairav Beej Mantra.

That was all for how to avoid Rahu Kaal effects and the adverse impact of Yamagandam and Gulika Kaal. However, you must note that these periods do not impact everyone the same. Their effects may vary from person to person according to the placement of planets in their Kundalis.
