The above timings may vary slightly depending on the time of sunrise. We calculated these weekly, specifically Tuesday Rahukalam and Yamagandam timings assuming sunrise is at 6.00 AM. Let us now understand Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kalam in more detail.

What Is Rahukalam Everyday

Vedic astrology allows all seven planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) a specific day of the week. Since shadow or nodal planets (Rahu and Ketu) have no special day allotted to them, they rule daily for one and a half hours. The duration of Rahu’s rule is known as Rahukalam (also spelled as Rahu Kaal). It is calculated by dividing the total time between sunrise and sunset at a place by eight.

Rahu is a snake that swallows the Sun, resulting in an eclipse. Moreover, it is the Asura (supernatural being with destructive powers) Svarbhanu’s head who deceitfully drank the holy nectar (Amrit) meant for Devas (supernatural beings with divine powers) during the Samudra Manthan. Even if it is a divine planet (he became divine as he drank the Amrit), Rahu is considered malicious.

During Rahukalam, Rahu’s energy is at its peak. Unless the combination of planets in your Kundali (horoscope) shows a benefic Rahu, this planet can lead to challenges and disappointment.

Hence, you should not perform any auspicious activities (except for those intended to appease Rahu) during the one-and-a-half hours of Rahukalam every day to prevent Rahu’s adverse effects.

What Is Yamagandam

Yamagandam is one-and-a-half hours every day, dedicated to Yama, (also called Yam or Yamraj), the son of the planet Sun. Yama carries the deceased person’s soul (Atma) to the place it deserves to go.

Any activity initiated during this period (especially those related to money or travel) of Yamagandam, particularly Tuesday Yamagandam timings, does not yield a successful result. Only death-related rituals and ceremonies are conducted during these hours.

What Is Gulika Kaal

Gulika Kalam or Gulika Kaal is the period of one-and-a-half hours per day dedicated to Gulikan (Saturn’s son). During the Gulika Kaal, you should not perform any inauspicious activities or things you only want to happen once (such as death-related rituals, marriage, etc.), as any activity performed during this period repeats itself.

As you may have noted, Vedic astrologers specifically emphasize Tuesday Gulika Kaal, Rahukalam, and Yamagandam timings. Here is more on it.

Tuesday Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal Timings and Significance

Tuesday is the day dedicated to Mangal (Mars), a naturally fierce, aggressive, and malefic planet. Since Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal are already not-so-auspicious, the negativity doubles when they combine with Tuesday’s Malefic Mangal. Hence, Tuesday Rahu Kaal timings, Yamagandam Tuesday, and Gulika Kaal on this day are given special importance when performing any crucial activity to ensure it has a fruitful outcome.

The Tuesday Rahukalam timings are 3:00 pm (IST) – 4:30 pm (IST), Yamagandam timings are 9:00 am (IST) – 10:30 am (IST), and Gulika Kaal timings are 12:00 pm (IST) – 1:30 pm (IST).

However, you can perform some astrological remedies if an important task cannot be avoided during the Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal.

Remedies for Rahukalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal

Below are the remedial measures you can take to mitigate the negative effects of Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal in emergencies.

Keep aside some money or pray to your Kul Devta before beginning the task or going on a journey.

Note: You can chant Ganesh Mantras and Hanuman Chalisa if you are unaware of your Kul Devta. Also, offer jaggery and panchamritam to Lord Hanuman and eat the prasadam before commencing the task.

Observe a Vrat (fast) on Tuesday, i.e., do not consume food or even water, to appease Lord Ganesha, Goddess Kali, Goddess Durga, and Lord Hanuman to protect you from the ill-effects of Mars, Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal.
