About International Dance Day

International Dance Day was established with the aim of promoting the art of dance across the globe. Every year a unique personality is selected by ITI to develop an exceptional International Dance Day message and pass it onto the world. On this World Dance Day, professional dances, as well as amateurs practice dance, and special performances are arranged in theaters around the world.

When is International Dance Day?

Every year International Dance Day is celebrated on the 29th of April which is the birth anniversary of the creator of modern ballet named Jean-Georges Noverre.

Why is International Dance Day celebrated?

Following are the aims and objectives behind the creation and celebration of International Dance Day:

To promote and encourage various forms of dance across the globe.
To share the happiness and joy of dancing with others
To inform the individuals about the significance of diverse forms of dances.
To encourage the dance community in promoting their efforts in order to make the government and other authoritative parties aware of the importance of dance.

Who Created International Dance Day?

International Dance Day was created by the International Dance Committee of ITI in the year 1982.

How International Dance Day is Celebrated?

International Dance Day celebrations are usually open to everyone as it is associated with dancing which is one of the most common aspects for all individuals. But the main and the grand celebrations are held by the ITI Centres and their members.

Various events are organized in theaters, dance and art universities, dance institutions and personal dance centers. Dance lovers and dancers gather together to celebrate the day with great fervor and enthusiasm.
Each year dance lovers share special and unique messages on various social media platforms related to the several values associated with dancing.
There are numerous events which are organized on International Dance Day such as open-door classes, dance evenings, special performances, street shows, exhibitions, TV and radio programs, public rehearsals, articles in magazines and newspapers, and lectures.
