Paush Month

Paush month is considered to be the 10th Lunar month in the Hindu calendar. As per the Gregorian calendar, this month falls between December-January.

The lunar month is observed by two methods in the Hindu calendar. In the 1st method, the Lunar month marks its presence from Purnima to Purnima which is known as the Purnimanta calendar whereas in another method Lunar month is marked from Amavasya to Amavasya which is known as the Amanta calendar.

Some important festivals of Paush month are Saphala Ekadashi, Banada Ashtami, Shakambhari Purnima, Paush Purnima.

List of Paush Month Festivals

Saphala Ekadashi - This vrat is one of the 24 vrats of Ekadashi which is observed to seek blessings of Lord Vishnu and to appease him. 

 Pausha Putrada Ekadashi- This is also among the 24 vrats of Ekadashi which is held to seek blessings of Lord Vishnu.

Banada Ashtami- Paush Shukla Ashtami marks the beginning of the Banada Ashtami and its ending is marked by the Paush Purnima. Thus, Banada Ashtami is also called the Paush Shukla Ashtami. 

Shakambhari Purnima- Shakambhari Purnima or Shakambhari Navratri is said to be the last day of Shakambari Navratri. 

Paush Purnima- Paush Purnima is the preeminent day in the Hindu calendar as this day is the beginning of the period of austerity which falls in the month of Magha.
